Characteristics: Light, fresh, and volatile — they evaporate quickly.
Purpose: To grab attention and set the initial mood.
Examples: Bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, eucalyptus, cardamom, lavender.
Middle Notes
Middle / Core
What they are: The body of the fragrance — they emerge after the top notes fade.
Characteristics: Well-rounded, balanced, and lingering. They give character and emotional tone.
Purpose: To define the true personality of the candle’s scent.
Examples: Rose, jasmine, cinnamon, clove, ylang-ylang, geranium.
Base Notes
Dry Down / Foundation
What they are: The final scents that linger long after the candle is extinguished.
Characteristics: Deep, rich, and long-lasting — they anchor the fragrance.
Purpose: To provide depth, warmth, and longevity.
Examples: Tonka, patchouli, vanilla, amber, musk, cedarwood.
