Not all candles are created equal. While a basic candle might offer light, it often lacks the thoughtful craftsmanship that transforms a simple flame into a sensory experience. At Inner Zen, every candle is a reflection of care—from the use of clean-burning, high-quality waxes to the infusion of carefully selected, luxurious oils. Each one is hand-poured with precision and made using sustainable wicks, creating a product that stands apart in both performance and presence. Crafting a candle is a meticulous process that hinges on precision, patience, and an understanding of the finer details—what is known as “candle maths.” It’s not as simple as melting wax and pouring it into a container; every step is governed by critical temperatures and careful measurements.
Most of our candles are 8oz with 10% fragrance oil, so this is how we work out wax and fragrance needed:
Wax Weight: 8oz with 10% fragrance load: we calculate the wax weight as 8oz ÷ (1 + 0.10) = 7.27oz.
Fragrance Weight: We then subtract the wax weight from the total weight: 8oz - 7.27oz = 0.73oz.
The wax must be melted to its optimal mixing temperature, ensuring it is fluid enough to integrate the exact percentage of fragrance oil for the perfect scent throw—too hot, and the fragrance may burn off; too cool, and the wax might seize. Then comes the pouring temperature, where precision ensures a smooth, even finish without sinkholes or cracks. Even the ambient room temperature plays a role; a room that’s too cold can cause the candle to cool unevenly, affecting its quality.
Once poured, the candle must cure for at least 24–48 hours, or even up to a week, depending on the wax type, to allow the fragrance to bind properly. And the journey doesn’t end there—rigorous testing follows. The wick size, burn time, and scent throw must be evaluated and refined to ensure the candle performs flawlessly. This interplay of science and artistry underscores just how much expertise and care goes into creating a candle that brings light, fragrance, and joy into your space. Every glowing masterpiece is the result of dedication to these details, turning a labour-intensive craft into a work of mindful brilliance.

Wax
We most use European Golden Wax 464, a high-quality soy wax made in Sweden by AAK. Crafted from responsibly sourced soybean oil, it is 100% natural, GMO-free, and vegan-friendly—free from paraffin, palm, and synthetic additives. when required, we'll use a natural plant based mixed blend of rapeseed and coconut.
Soy wax is chosen for its purity and sustainability. It burns cleanly, produces minimal soot, and has a long, even burn—making it a healthier choice for both you and the environment.
Because it's a natural material, each batch may look slightly different. Some candles cure with a frosty top or tiny air bubbles. These small, organic variations are signs of real, untreated wax—just as nature made it.

Oils

Designed in France, our candles are made using a refined, cruelty-free fragrance oil—vegan, paraben-free, and ethically sourced from trusted luxury suppliers.

Wicks
Our wicks, TCR 21/12 and CL16 are are an innovative new flat wick made from unbleached cotton, interwoven with either a delicate paper thread and encased in a protective outer jacket or with a linen thread. These wicks offer excellent rigidity, as well as superior scent throw, minimising afterglow and smoking.
Botanicals
Each candle is gently adorned with organically sourced dried flowers: hibiscus, rose, delicate Japanese blossoms, lavender, marigold, etc.
